Monday Warm Your Home

Asalaamu alaikum ya akhawaati,

Today is the day to swish and swipe those bathrooms, run a quick feather duster across the furniture, sweep and vacuum. No more than 5 to 10 minutes in each room! Just a quick maintenance clean.

Do not stress and panic. Grab window cleaner, paper towels, the vacuum cleaner, a feather duster or rag and the broom. Just go go go! Set a timer for no more than 10 minutes as you enter a room. Only do the main living areas of your home. The bathrooms, the living room, dining room, your bedroom and kitchen.

Do not allow yourself to get sidetracked. Just swish, swipe, dust, vacuum and sweep. That is it!!!! After you’re finished, spritz a little flower water in the air and/or on bedroom pillows. This will really make your home feel clean and cozy for Ramadan.

We’re FLYing!!

*A note to those of you familiar with FlyLady terms: Because the word Blessing has the meaning of  ‘worship’, and we know that we do not worship anything other than Allah subhana wa ta’aala, I  have changed the term ‘Weekly Home Blessing’ to the ‘Weekly Home Warming’ in order to avoid any reference to shirk.

Thursday Errand Day & Printable Reminder

Asalaamu Alaikum ya akhawaati,

Whether you choose today or another day, set aside time for Errand Day. And that means going over lists to see what things we can get accomplished!! If you need to go out shopping, think about those in need an pick up an extra item or two as a donation.

You may find it extremely helpful to stay organized by using the Fascinating Muslimah Weekly Planner. It is meant to be a woman’s household organizer.

This planner has some great features:

  • The first 2 lines of each day on this form are typeable — that is you open the pdf document and type your daily routines (laundry day, ironing day, etc). Then print. Or, you can simply print it out without typing in it and those lines print out blank.
  • One week of sectioned days per page to help us maintain our routines.
  • Sectioned areas: tasks list, call and email lists, shopping reminder, and notes
  • Arabesque icons

Print a copy of the planner at home. Then take it to a place like Office Max and print 26 double-sided copies for cheap. You can then have it coil-bind for less than $3.

Have fun!

Wednesday 15 Minutes in the Kitchen

Asalaamu alaikum ya akhawaati,

We all know that having a clean and organized kitchen makes it much easier to prepare meals for Suhoor and Iftar. So take advantage of the day time to get those pots and pans organized, spices sorted, canned goods arranged.

Remember the FlyLady tip to set the timer for 15 minutes in order to avoid feeling overwhelmed. At the end of each 15 minute interval you will be amazed and proud of how much you have accomplished.

If you don’t have a kitchen timer, go to this website Online-Stopwatch (click on Count Down)h. Then click on the numbers 1-5-0-0. This will set the online timer for 15 minutes. Turn the computer speakers up high enough for you to hear it in the kitchen and get to boogeying!

Tuesday Plan and Play

Asalaamu alaikum ya akhawaati,

Today is Plan and Play Day!

You need to review your To Do list(s) and see what items you still need to pick up and what things need to be done. Take time out today to really look at your gift list and make sure the ones that need to be mailed get taken care of.

Look ahead to your errand day and see what items you can arrange to pick up. If you still need to place online orders, catalog orders or mail orders, check your list in the Ramadan Control Journal and then check them off as you get them accomplished. You don’t want to miss out on items that you really wanted to give this year because they are out of stock – just because you waited too long.

Now that we have talked about the Planning part of our day, what about the Play part? For today, make sure you take time out just for yourself. This could mean that you go to your bedroom and shut the door for 15 minutes and read Quran or an Islamic book; it could mean you invite a sister you haven’t seen for a while over for iftar. It does not matter what you do as long as you take some time out just for yourself to play!

The first day of fasting will be here soon Inshaa Allah. Hopefully you have completed all of the missions and are ready to begin a successful month of fasting.

Take this time to contemplate over any un-addressed issues you would like to resolve before this blessed month begins. This may be a spiritual issue or an organizational issue. Either way, take a few minutes to decide how it should be resolved and EXECUTE!
Remember to refer to your Ramadan Control Journal for Menus, Recipes, and Travel plans. Inshaa Allah this will be one of the best Ramadan’s ever now that you are organized and focused.

May Allah increase you in all that is goodwhile making your intention for the fast solely to please Him. Ameen.

Pre-Ramadhan Mission #29: Thursday A Little Wrapping

Mission #29: A Little Wrapping… (1 More Missions and about 3 to 4 Days til Ramadhan insha’Allah)

Asalaamu alaikum ya akhawaati,

Inshaa Allah your on-line orders have arrived by now, so this is the time to sort the items you are planning on giving to your family, friends, or relatives.

Take this time to review your gift list and see what items need to be mailed – and what still needs to be picked up. Remember don’t pick up any extras if it doesn’t fit into your budget. Gifts are fun, but the point of Ramadan is still worshiping our Creator not going into debt.

If you are mailing items, label them with their addresses now. The longer you wait, the more likely these items won’t get mailed on time.

Check your Ramadan Control Journal for your list of deadlines, which should include your mailing dates so you don’t miss them, inshaa Allah!
