Automotive Care for Ramadhan: Maintenance
Keep your car in the best shape possible during Ramadhan — we don’t want any incidences while traveling to or from anyplace.

Keep supplies in the trunk such as flash lights, tools, water for the radiator, empty gas can, jumper cables, etc., and protection from the elements should you have to wait on the side of the road for help to arrive.

Flylady Ramadhan Missions for the Week of July 21
Now that Ramadhan has started, missions are in maintenance mode. Review previous assignments, follow through on goals and projects. Here are few useful assignments:

  • {Mon} Warm Your Home
  • {Tue} Review Menus and Supplies
  • {Wed} 15 Minutes in the Kitchen
  • {Thu} A Little Wrapping
  • {Fri} Check your budget

Tackle Clutter and Touch Up/Clean
“Clutter and Clean” is a Fly Lady alternative. With major cleaning done before Ramadhan, it’s touch-up time now. If you missed out on the major stuff, just focus on the touch-ups assignments.

For the 3rd week of fasting:
—touch-up and clean bedrooms (detailed assignment)
—15-minute daily de-clutter

De-Clutter Tips:

  • Spend 15 minutes a day de-cluttering
  • Do the easy stuff first (e.g. trash, broken items, etc)
  • Remove clutter before cleaning a room
  • Toss things you no longer use/need

Pick an area each day this week to de-clutter. It can be a drawer, closet, room, etc. Choose a day and time. Make your intentions to please Allah. Then set a timer for 15 minutes and get to work!

RAMADHAN FOOD
& HEALTH =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Bringing a Meal to a Close
Ramadhan is occurring during the hottest months of the year. Plan and prepare food accordingly, including desserts.

Desserts bring the evening meal to a close. It refreshes the palate and provides a boost of energy. Pies, puddings, and cakes are the norm in the Western world.

However, in the rest of the world, especially in warmer climates, the meal comes to an end in a different way. Instead of fat-, sugar-, and milk-filled baked goods, what follows supper is fresh fruit —chunks of mango, oranges, bananas, pineapple slices, for example.

There are many benefits to eating fresh fruit over sugar based treats. Fruit re-hydrates the body on hot days. Fruit is lighter and easier to digest, and adds fiber to the diet. Also, a hot oven —which heats up the home— is not needed.

Fresh fruit dishes are quick and easy to prepare. Search the site www.WHFoods.com for some simple yet delicious recipes, or come up with fantastic dishes on your own!

Menu Planning
Plan a week’s worth of meals in advance helps you focus on other aspects of Ramadhan. Set aside 20 – 30 minutes once a week to decide what will be served. Use this Weekly Menu Planning Form (pdf), and/or this Blank 30-Day Calendar (pdf).

Question:
Is it From the Sunnah To Stop Classes During Ramadhan?
I read that when the month of Ramadhan entered, some of the imaams would stop classes to only focus on reciting the Quraan. This was despite them being the people of knowledge, those who gave the people religious verdicts. Thus, they would stop all classes even giving religious verdicts to the people. Is this correct? Is this month specified for the Quraan? Should I cease reading the hadiths and the explanation of the hadiths and other lessons?

Answer: {Shaykkh al-Albani}
This specification has no basis in the Sunnah; rather that which is in the Sunnah and known in the two authentic books of hadith is increasing the recitation of the Quraan during the month of Ramadhan. As for specifying the month of Ramadhan only for the recitation of the Quraan without any other acts of worship such as seeking knowledge, and studying hadith, and clarifying and explaining them, then this has no basis.

Likewise, included in this is charity, sadqa, and kindness to people, etc.

Putting everything on hold for the recitation has no basis. That which has a basis is only increasing in its recitation.
