Rehydrate -—  Fasting in the summer months means going without water for a very long time. Be sure to drink plenty of water once eating becomes permissable. Read Signs of Dehydration

Signs of Laylatul-Qadar —
From amongst the signs of Laylatul-Qadar is that it is a calm night and the believer’s heart is delighted and at peace with it, and he becomes active in doing good actions, and the sun on the following morning rises clearly without any rays.

Automotive Care for Ramadhan: Fluids, Hoses & Belts
Summer heat is hard on cars all by itself. Add multiple daily trips to the masjid during Ramadhan on top of that and your car is taking a pounding.

Take some time this week to have a mechanic do a quick check of your car: fluids, hoses, belts, battery, tire air pressure, etc. It’s too hot to be stuck on the side of the road.

Tackle Clutter and Touch Up/Clean
“Clutter and Clean” is a Fly Lady alternative. With major cleaning done before Ramadhan, it’s touch-up time now. If you missed out on the major stuff, just focus on the touch-ups assignments.

For the current week of fasting:
—touch-up and clean entrance to the home (detailed assignment)
—15-minute daily de-clutter

De-Clutter Tips:

  • Spend 15 minutes a day de-cluttering
  • Do the easy stuff first (e.g. trash, broken items, etc)
  • Remove clutter before cleaning a room
  • Toss things you no longer use/need

Pick an area each day this week to de-clutter. It can be a drawer, closet, room, etc. Choose a day and time. Make your intentions to please Allah. Then set a timer for 15 minutes and get to work!

& HEALTH =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

ice waterBerry Water
Turn ordinary water into a real treat with these simple ideas. Add any of the following to your next glass of water:

  • whole or crushed fruit —berries, watermelon, or citrus slices
  • fresh herbs —mint or basil, even cucumber slices
  • unsweetened juice —grape, cranberry, pomegranate
  • ice cubes made with lemonade, tea, cucumber slices or mint leaves

Gently squish/bruise the fruit or herbs before adding them to the water. It releases their flavors.

We hope you enjoy this hydration tip!

Menu Planning
Plan a week’s worth of meals in advance helps you focus on other aspects of Ramadhan. Set aside 20 – 30 minutes once a week to decide what will be served. Use this Weekly Menu Planning Form (pdf), and/or this Blank 30-Day Calendar (pdf).

Question on Distinguishing a Particular Night with Worship

Some people seek Laylatul-Qadar so they active by offering their prayers and other forms of worship whilst they do not do likewise on other nights in Ramadhaan, so is this in accordance with that which is correct?

Answer: {Shaykkh Ibn al-Uthaymeen}
No! It is not in accordance with that which is correct, for certainly Laylatul-Qadar changes. So it could be on the night of the twenty seventh, and it could be on any other night as has been indicated in many ahaadeeth. It has been confirmed that the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) said: ((In that particular year Laylatul-Qadar was revealed on the night of the twenty first)). Therefore it is not befitting for a person to specify his stand (in prayer) on a particular night or distinguish a night which he yearns to be Laylatul-Qadar (likewise). (Rather) striving in all of the last ten nights is from the guidance of the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam), since when the last ten nights arrived he would tighten his waist belt and awaken his family and used to spend them all awake (in worship). So that which is befitting for the prudent believer is to strive in all of the last ten nights such that the reward does not pass him by.
