Tackle Clutter and Touch Up/Clean
“Clutter and Clean” is a Fly Lady alternative. We did major cleaning before starting to fast so as not to get distracted with cleaning during Ramadhan. If you missed out on that part, just focus on the touch-ups assignments.

For the final week of fasting:
—touch-up and clean Kitchen/Dining (detailed assignment)
—15-minute daily de-clutter

De-Clutter Tips:

  • Spend 15 minutes a day de-cluttering
  • Do the easy stuff first (e.g. trash, broken items, etc)
  • Remove clutter before cleaning a room
  • Toss things you no longer use/need

Pick an area each day this week to de-clutter. It can be a drawer, closet, room, etc. Choose a day and time. Make your intentions to please Allah. Then set a timer for 15 minutes and get to work!

Replenishing Electrolytes
We loose valuable nutrients through sweating, urination and poor nutrition.

Electrolytes (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium) are minerals that carry electric charges. They maintain fluid balance, promote muscle and nerve function, cell health, and more.

Low electrolytes can cause health problems such as muscle cramps and weakness, fatigue, headaches, and even depression. Severely low electrolyte levels are a serious problem that requires immediate medical attention.

Getting enough of these minerals is as simple as making a few additions to the diet. Here are some foods to include at the iftaar table.

Nutrient          Foods
Potassium     | nectarines, apricots, melons, raisins, avocado, sardines, baked cod, beans
Magnesium    | pumpkin and sesame seeds, cashews, almonds, black beans, halibut
Calcium         | dairy, sesame seeds, sardines, greens, spinach, scallops
Sodium          | cheese, olives, sardines, salt, cornbread

Ramadhan & Duaa Goals
Did you achieve the Ramadhan goals you set for yourself? Did you set any at all?

It’s not too late to work up a quick list, especially for du’aa.  Read this {Benefit from Ramadhaan}. Use this form {Dunya/Akhira Duaa list} to create a duaa list. The form is simple enough to hand-write on a sheet of paper.

Recommended Supplication Especially During Last 10 Nights
It is recommended to supplicate often during all times, especially during the month of Ramadan, in the last ten nights, and during the odd nights of it even more so. It is recommended that one say the following supplication a lot:

Allahumma innaka `afuwwun tuhibbul `afwa fa`fu `annee
“O Allah! Verily, you are the Oft-Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me.”

This is due to what Imam Ahmad recorded from Aishah that she said “O Messenger of Allah! If I find the Night of Al-Qadr what should I say?”

He (sallahu alayhe wa sallam) replied, Say : “O Allah! Verily You are the Oft-Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me.” [Ahmad 6:182]

Question No. 1:
Distinguishing a Particular Night with Worship
Some people seek Laylatul-Qadar so they active by offering their prayers and other forms of worship whilst they do not do likewise on other nights in Ramadhaan, so is this in accordance with that which is correct?

Answer: {Shaykkh Ibn al-Uthaymeen}
No! It is not in accordance with that which is correct, for certainly Laylatul-Qadar changes. So it could be on the night of the twenty seventh, and it could be on any other night as has been indicated in many ahaadeeth.

It has been confirmed that the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) said: «In that particular year Laylatul-Qadar was revealed on the night of the twenty first».

Therefore, it is not befitting for a person to specify his stand (in prayer) on a particular night or distinguish a night which he yearns to be Laylatul-Qadar (likewise). (Rather) striving in all of the last ten nights is from the guidance of the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam), since when the last ten nights arrived he would tighten his waist belt and awaken his family and used to spend them all awake (in worship).

So that which is befitting for the prudent believer is to strive in all of the last ten nights such that the reward does not pass him by.

Question No 2.:
Giving money to buy food for the poor as Zakat al-fitr
It’s known that disbursing Zaakat at-Fitr in form of money is impermissible and the fataawa of Ahlul Ilm in this case are many. But is it permissible if I give money to some person and that person buys food for the poor and gives it as Zakat al-fitr on my behalf?

Response:
It is important to note that these fatawaa are referring specifically to zakaah al-fitr being discharged in the form of money to the poor people.

It does not address the issue of someone paying another person to buy food for him and distribute it as food. In this case, a person has actually distributed his zakaah al-fitr in food; just through a representative (called wikaalah), which is permissible.

We must classify the organizations or masjids which offer a service for zakaah al-fitr into the following categories:

  • (1) Some of them are distributing it as money to the poor people.
  • (2) Others are distributing the zakaah as food to the poor people, but it is done AFTER the ‘Eed prayer (whether intentional or due to negligence).
  •  (3) And others are buying food for people and distributing it to the poor people before the ‘Eed prayer on their behalf.

#3 is the only service that properly distributes the zakaah Al-Fitr.

#1 and #2 could not be considered zakaah al-fitr; rather they would be counted as general charities.
