Khutbah excerpt: (MP3): Make That REAL Connection with the Poor and Don’t Be Arrogant!

{Listen HERE} From the khutbah entitled, “Shunning Riyaa’ and Arrogance as Ramadhaan Ends,”

In this brief excerpt from a Ramadhaan khutbah, Moosaa Richardson stresses the importance of taking the theoretical sympathy for the poor that builds up within from the hunger and thirst of our days of fasting into something real, a real connection to the poor and needy. Perhaps you may never return to giving your zakaat through charity organizations again after practicing this advice!

Take Advantage of Winter to Make Up Fasts

We will begin to experience longer and later daylight hours insha’Allah as spring eventually approaches. Take advantage of what’s left of the winter — the shorter days makes it easier to make up missed fasts.

And on Sunday, March 9, 2014 — approximately 3.5 months before Ramadhan — clocks in the US are moved forward one hour as part of Daylight Saving Time insha’Allah creating aimage from WP Clipartn even longer day.

Get out a calendar today. Set your intention to fast, then make a plan. Try your best to stick to it. You’ll be finished before you know it insha’allah!

P.S. Ramadhan 1435 is estimated to be approximately June 28-ish, 2014 insha’allah.

What is The Description of The Eid prayer, Number of Rakats and The Eid Takbirs
Source: Calgary Islam: Eid Prayer

Here is a basic outline of the prayer on ‘Eid. Read more details at the link above.

There is no adthaan for the ‘Eid prayer. And as in other congregations prayers, the people repeat after the Imaam except in situations when they do not (e.g. Qur’an recitations).

Rak’ah #1

Takes position of Salaat including facing direction of prayer
Imaam says Takbeerat al-ihraam to begin the prayer {Allaahu Akbar}
Imaam says 7 Takbeer in a row: {Allaahu Akbar}
Imaam Recites al-Faatihah, then recites Soorat Qaf {or Soorat al-A’la}
Complete remainder of the rak’ah (bowing, prostrations, and returning from them)

Rak’ah #2

Imaam says Takbeer while standing from sitting position
Imaam stands up completely
Says 5 Takbeer: {Allaahu Akbar}
Imaam Recites al-Faatihah, then recites Soorat al-Qamr {or Soorat al-Ghaashiyah}
Complete remainder of the rak’ah (bowing, prostrations, and returning from them)
Gives salaams to the right and left

After the prayer, the imam should address the people. Part of the khutbah should be addressed specifically to the women, telling them of the things that they should do and warning them against the things that they should avoid.

Question No 4.:
Is it better for a women to stay home or attend Eid prayer?
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen was asked: what is better for a woman, to come out to the Eid prayer or to stay at home?

He replied:

It is better for them to go out to Eid prayer, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) enjoined that the women go out to the Eid prayer, even the adolescent girls and virgins – i.e., women who do not ordinarily go out.

He commanded them to go out, and he told the menstruating women to go out but to keep away from the prayer-place. So menstruating women should go out with other women for Eid, but they should not enter the place where the Eid prayer is offered, because the Eid prayer-place is a mosque and it is not permissible for a menstruating woman to stay there, but it is permissible for her to pass through or to take something she needs from it, without staying there. Based on this we say: women are commanded to go out to the Eid prayer and join the men in this prayer, because of the goodness, dhikr and du’aa’ they may experience there.

{Majmoo’ Fataawa al-Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, 16/210}

He also said:

But they must go out looking decent, not wearing adornment, makeup or perfume, so that they may combine following the Sunnah with avoiding fitnah.

What some women do of wearing adornment, makeup and perfume is because of their ignorance and negligence on the part of their guardians. This does not cancel out the general shar’i ruling, which is that women are commanded to go out to the Eid prayer.

RAMADHAN FOOD
& HEALTH =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Replenishing Electrolytes
We loose valuable nutrients through sweating, urination and poor nutrition.

Electrolytes (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium) are minerals that carry electric charges. They maintain fluid balance, promote muscle and nerve function, cell health, and more.

Low electrolytes can cause health problems such as muscle cramps and weakness, fatigue, headaches, and even depression. Severely low electrolyte levels are a serious problem that requires immediate medical attention.

Getting enough of these minerals is as simple as making a few additions to the diet. Here are some foods to include at the iftaar table.

Nutrient          Foods
Potassium     | nectarines, apricots, melons, raisins, avocado, sardines, baked cod, beans
Magnesium    | pumpkin and sesame seeds, cashews, almonds, black beans, halibut
Calcium         | dairy, sesame seeds, sardines, greens, spinach, scallops
Sodium          | cheese, olives, sardines, salt, cornbread

This is not intended as medical advice but a reminder to eat healthy during Ramadhan. Follow the instructions of your health care provider.

Recommended Supplication Especially During Last 10 Nights
It is recommended to supplicate often during all times, especially during the month of Ramadan, in the last ten nights, and during the odd nights of it even more so. It is recommended that one say the following supplication a lot:

Allahumma innaka `afuwwun tuhibbul `afwa fa`fu `annee
“O Allah! Verily, you are the Oft-Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me.”

This is due to what Imam Ahmad recorded from Aishah that she said “O Messenger of Allah! If I find the Night of Al-Qadr what should I say?”

He (sallahu alayhe wa sallam) replied, Say : “O Allah! Verily You are the Oft-Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me.” [Ahmad 6:182]

QUESTIONS
ABOUT RAMADHAN =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Question No. 1:
Distinguishing a Particular Night with Worship
Some people seek Laylatul-Qadar so they active by offering their prayers and other forms of worship whilst they do not do likewise on other nights in Ramadhaan, so is this in accordance with that which is correct?

Answer: {Shaykkh Ibn al-Uthaymeen}
No! It is not in accordance with that which is correct, for certainly Laylatul-Qadar changes. So it could be on the night of the twenty seventh, and it could be on any other night as has been indicated in many ahaadeeth.

It has been confirmed that the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) said: «In that particular year Laylatul-Qadar was revealed on the night of the twenty first».

Therefore, it is not befitting for a person to specify his stand (in prayer) on a particular night or distinguish a night which he yearns to be Laylatul-Qadar (likewise). (Rather) striving in all of the last ten nights is from the guidance of the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam), since when the last ten nights arrived he would tighten his waist belt and awaken his family and used to spend them all awake (in worship).

So that which is befitting for the prudent believer is to strive in all of the last ten nights such that the reward does not pass him by.

Shaykh Ibn al-Uthaymeen

Question No 2.:
Giving money to buy food for the poor as Zakat al-fitr
It’s known that disbursing Zaakat at-Fitr in form of money is impermissible and the fataawa of Ahlul Ilm in this case are many. But is it permissible if I give money to some person and that person buys food for the poor and gives it as Zakat al-fitr on my behalf?

Response:
It is important to note that these fatawaa are referring specifically to zakaah al-fitr being discharged in the form of money to the poor people.

It does not address the issue of someone paying another person to buy food for him and distribute it as food. In this case, a person has actually distributed his zakaah al-fitr in food; just through a representative (called wikaalah), which is permissible.

We must classify the organizations or masjids which offer a service for zakaah al-fitr into the following categories:

  • (1) Some of them are distributing it as money to the poor people.
  • (2) Others are distributing the zakaah as food to the poor people, but it is done AFTER the ‘Eed prayer (whether intentional or due to negligence).
  •  (3) And others are buying food for people and distributing it to the poor people before the ‘Eed prayer on their behalf.

#3 is the only service that properly distributes the zakaah Al-Fitr.

#1 and #2 could not be considered zakaah al-fitr; rather they would be counted as general charities.

And Allaah knows best.

Bringing a Meal to a Close
Ramadhan is occurring during the hottest months of the year. Plan and prepare food accordingly, including desserts.

Desserts bring the evening meal to a close. It refreshes the palate and provides a boost of energy. Pies, puddings, and cakes are the norm in the Western world.

However, in the rest of the world, especially in warmer climates, the meal comes to an end in a different way. Instead of fat-, sugar-, and milk-filled baked goods, what follows supper is fresh fruit —chunks of mango, oranges, bananas, pineapple slices, for example.

There are many benefits to eating fresh fruit over sugar based treats. Fruit re-hydrates the body on hot days. Fruit is lighter and easier to digest, and adds fiber to the diet. Also, a hot oven —which heats up the home— is not needed.

Fresh fruit dishes are quick and easy to prepare. Search the site www.WHFoods.com for some simple yet delicious recipes, or come up with fantastic dishes on your own!

Question:
Is it From the Sunnah To Stop Classes During Ramadhan?
I read that when the month of Ramadhan entered, some of the imaams would stop classes to only focus on reciting the Quraan. This was despite them being the people of knowledge, those who gave the people religious verdicts. Thus, they would stop all classes even giving religious verdicts to the people. Is this correct? Is this month specified for the Quraan? Should I cease reading the hadiths and the explanation of the hadiths and other lessons?

Answer: {Shaykkh al-Albani}
This specification has no basis in the Sunnah; rather that which is in the Sunnah and known in the two authentic books of hadith is increasing the recitation of the Quraan during the month of Ramadhan. As for specifying the month of Ramadhan only for the recitation of the Quraan without any other acts of worship such as seeking knowledge, and studying hadith, and clarifying and explaining them, then this has no basis.

Likewise, included in this is charity, sadqa, and kindness to people, etc.

Putting everything on hold for the recitation has no basis. That which has a basis is only increasing in its recitation.

Welcome to Ramadhan Planner 1434 a.h. {2013}!

As salaamu alaykum

Insha’Allah, we will have been allowed by Allah to enter another Ramadhan.

In order to have a peaceful cruise into and through that holy month, we need to take care of things so that we are not running around like a chicken with its head cut off! By Ramadan we will have most of our preparations finished, insha’Allah.

Our plan of action for the next 6 weeks will include:

  • Daily missions to do
  • Ramadhan Planning Notebook/Control Journal
  • Clean/Declutter the house
  • Daily routines
  • Stocking the freezer, pantry, linen closets, etc
  • Budgeting
  • Receiving guests
  • Selecting Eid outfits
  • Buying gifts
  • Making travel arrangements

Hopefully, this is going to be the year that you will not be feeling like Ramadan is too big a hassle.  You may actually enjoy yourself – and your family is going to love the blessed month of Ramadan insha’Allah.

Inshaa Allah your pre-planning and preparation will allow you and your family more time to focus on worshipping Allah subhana wa ta’aala: reading Qur’an, attending Taraweeh prayers, etc.  These acts should be enjoyed without feeling rushed and distracted, inshaa Allah.

Your Ramadan Planner/FlyLady Control Journal will contain daily Ramadan Cruising Missions to help you accomplish your BabySteps for preparing for this special occasion. FlyLady Ramadhan was put together by a wonderful sister put together. May Allah bless her with good for her efforts at getting us organized.

Does the FlyLady system does not work well? Then the Declutter Series may be just the thing.

Until Ramadhan, weekly posts to this blog uses FlyLady Ramadhan framework, but allows flexibility to ready the house the Declutter way.

You can do anything for 15 minutes; even get ready for a blessed month of worship!  Are you ready to FLY Islamically?
